Watch Loggerhead Turtle’s Release On Facebook

Clearwater Marine Aquarium plans a beach cleanup and sea turtle release on Tuesday.

Clearwater, FL — The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is inviting Tampa Bay area residents out for a Tuesday morning beach cleanup and a special sea turtle’s release.

The cleanup takes place starting at 9 a.m. starting behind the Sandpearl Resort on Clearwater Beach, 500 Mandalay Ave. At 11 a.m., those assembled will get to watch a rehabilitated loggerhead sea turtle head back into the Gulf of Mexico.

Kreacher was found in waters near the Sandpearl Resort back on May 8. She was “discovered floating and distressed with moderate edema,” the aquarium explained on its website.

Kreacher was brought back to the aquarium for testing. Those tests revealed she had shells in her gastrointestinal track and esophagus.

“She received TPN (total parenteral nutrition) treatments and a regular diet of squid and shrimp to help regulate her digestive system,” the aquarium said.

Recently given a clean bill of health, Kreacher is all set to return to her home in the wild.

Those who want to witness the release can show up for the cleanup at 9 a.m. Her release is set for 11 a.m. Guests are asked to be on Clearwater Beach by at least 10:15 a.m. to have ample time to find a parking spot and get a good viewing location.

For those who can’t make it out, Kreacher’s release will be broadcast live on Winter the Dolphin’s Facebook page, the aquarium said. Kreacher will be the second sea turtle released by the aquarium with a satellite tracker attached, so folks can follow her journey beyond release.
