They also approved a tentative $144 million county budget, decisions that will shape how much Clewiston homeowners pay and what services the county can fund next year.
3. Hendry County School District expands employee healthcare access (lakeonews.com) — Clewiston-based Hendry County school employees will soon have easier access to low- or no-copay medical care at a dedicated clinic and nearby Hendry Regional pharmacy on West Sagamore Avenue. Starting October 1, insured staff and their families can use expanded services including primary care, labs, imaging, cardiology, and prescription delivery, part of a broader push to support and retain local educators.
4. MLF unveils enhanced 2027 Toyota Series Presented by Phoenix Boats (majorleaguefishing.com) — A major 2027 Toyota Series bass tournament is scheduled on Lake Okeechobee out of Clewiston, bringing top anglers, big payouts, and national attention to the local marina and tourism economy. The revamped series emphasizes solo competition, flexible schedules, and a no-entry-fee championship that could draw significant visitor traffic and spending into Clewiston during the February event.
5. Wedgworth Leadership Institute for Agriculture and Natural Resources announces Class XIII (ufl.edu) — Clewiston is represented in a prestigious statewide agriculture leadership program, with a U.S. Sugar professional selected among 30 participants for the Wedgworth Leadership Institute's two‑year Class XIII. The program will send members across Florida, to Washington, D.C., and abroad, building skills and connections that could influence future decisions affecting Clewiston's farming and natural resources industries.
