Hendry County detectives describe severe injuries and extensive blood evidence, while neighbors and family members offered sharply contrasting views of his past behavior during a pretrial detention hearing.
   

2. Hendry County sets millage rate and budget (lakeonews.com) — Hendry County commissioners meeting in Clewiston set a tentative 2026–27 property tax rate of 6.7700 mills, about 5.25% above the rolled-back rate, to cover rising costs. Starting October 1, insured staff and their families can use expanded services including primary care, labs, imaging, cardiology, and prescription delivery, part of a broader push to support and retain local educators.
   

4. MLF unveils enhanced 2027 Toyota Series Presented by Phoenix Boats (majorleaguefishing.com) — A major 2027 Toyota Series bass tournament is scheduled on Lake Okeechobee out of Clewiston, bringing top anglers, big payouts, and national attention to the local marina and tourism economy. The revamped series emphasizes solo competition, flexible schedules, and a no-entry-fee championship that could draw significant visitor traffic and spending into Clewiston during the February event.
   

5. Wedgworth Leadership Institute for Agriculture and Natural Resources announces Class XIII (ufl.edu) — Clewiston is represented in a prestigious statewide agriculture leadership program, with a U.S. Sugar professional selected among 30 participants for the Wedgworth Leadership Institute's two‑year Class XIII. The program will send members across Florida, to Washington, D.C., and abroad, building skills and connections that could influence future decisions affecting Clewiston's farming and natural resources industries.
