• Speed-detection cameras are going online in front of this Polk school (theledger.com) — If you drive near Horizons Elementary in Davenport, be ready for new school‑zone speed cameras that start issuing $100 tickets after a 30‑day warning period beginning Sept. 21. City officials say the cameras, operating only during school hours, aim to slow drivers in the 15‑mph zone and will store violation data briefly under strict privacy rules.
   

• Court weighs death penalty for Pennsylvania man convicted of murdering coworkers in Florida (lehighvalleylive.com) — Residents in Davenport are seeing renewed attention on the 2021 triple homicide there as a Florida jury now weighs the death penalty for convicted killer Shaun Paul Runyon. Prosecutors say Runyon attacked his coworkers in a Davenport rental home after a workplace dispute, using a bat and knife, and was later captured in Polk County after a brief manhunt.
   

• "I Don't Have One": Davenport Man Arrested In Lakeland For License Suspended Since 2011 (tampafp.com) — A Davenport man with a long history of driving offenses was arrested on I‑4 in Lakeland after deputies learned his license has been suspended since 2011. The 58‑year‑old now faces a felony charge for repeatedly driving with a suspended license, adding to prior DUIs and other traffic and criminal violations noted by the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
