Over 150 people of various denominations came from surrounding communities to attend the Community Memorial Day service at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd on Monday.
Members of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets, Suncoast Squadron, formed an honor guard.
Organist Robert Shone provided music for patriotic hymns, with members of the Dunedin Highland Middle School sharing moving music with bagpipes and drums at the beginning and end of the service.

Retired Lt. Col. Dr. William Lewis gave an interesting talk on the history of Memorial Day, which began as Decoration Day after the Civil War.
Prior to the service, attendees were invited to post names of men and women who died either in the service or after, as well as those who are currently serving or who have done so in the past. Each one was read aloud by Pastor Becky Robbins-Penniman, rector of Good Shepherd.

A reception followed, hosted by women of Good Shepherd under the guidance of Hilda Myers.
