Town leaders cited the length and seriousness of the violation, FEMA-related compliance pressure, and their belief the owner had ample time to remove the containers from the island.

Local officials and Lee County fear service reductions, while state leaders argue the change would deliver major tax relief and should be decided at the ballot box.
