Gator Attacks Photographer’s GoPro Camera At South FL Preserve: Watch
A South Florida photographer shared a video of a gator chomping down on his GoPro camera during a visit to Big Cypress National Preserve.
OCHOPEE, FL — A large gator attacked the GoPro camera of a photographer visiting Big Cypress National Preserve in Ochopee at the end of April.
Bobby Wummer, based in Palm Beach Gardens, shared footage of the gator trying to snack on the camera. (Watch the video clip below.)
When he put the GoPro on a 12-foot-long extension pole to try to get a close-up of the gator, the reptile lunged for the camera, he said in a Facebook post.

“As you can see, I did get an extreme close up inside the gator’s mouth. This was not done intentionally. I didn’t think that he would actually lunge up and bite down on the cam,” Wummer wrote. “I was lucky and didn’t play tug of war which would have probably been the end of camera! The alligator then realized that the camera was not food, and he released the camera.”

After the gator left, the photographer was able to retrieve his camera, which only had “minor damage,” he added.
