• Florida Horror-Fest coming to Fort Myers Sept. 19 (capecoralbreeze.com) — Fort Myers horror fans get their own convention when Florida Horror-Fest takes over the DoubleTree by Hilton at Bell Tower Shops on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Expect celebrity guests, a big horror marketplace, a costume contest, and trivia, with family-friendly pricing and free admission for one child 11 or under per paid adult.
   

• Three-Year Investigation into Organized Criminal Enterprise Results in Several Arrests (capecops.com) — A major fraud and racketeering investigation centered in Cape Coral, supported by the U.S. Marshals' Fort Myers office and Lee County deputies, has led to 11 arrests and dozens of felony charges. Authorities say the criminal enterprise stole hundreds of thousands of dollars, often from seniors, using identity theft, forged checks, vehicle theft, and drug-related schemes, and they vow continued crackdowns in the area.
   

• Man with SW Florida ties verified the 9/11 Ground Zero flag (wgcu.org) — A part-time North Fort Myers resident, forensic expert Nick Petraco, helped confirm that a flag returned in Washington state was the same one raised at Ground Zero on 9/11, leading to its placement at the memorial in New York. His Moody River Estates neighbor, who also has ties to the World Trade Center health program, reflects on the emotional weight of living next door to someone so closely linked to that history.
