1. 21-year-old arrested after police say he posted threat targeting Miami Dade College (wsvn.com) — Hialeah police arrested a 21-year-old after an Instagram post allegedly threatened a mass killing at Miami Dade College’s Hialeah campus on West 49th Street. Detectives traced the account to Jose Santos, detained him at a Hialeah home, and charged him with written threats to kill or cause bodily injury after calling in their Major Crimes Unit to investigate. 
2. Pool re-openings, firefighter pay and street cleaning: highlights from Hialeah cabinet meeting (wlrn.org) — Hialeah officials say all four recently closed public pools could reopen within about 30 days, with long-shuttered pools next in line for repairs. At a cabinet meeting, leaders also highlighted police raises, ongoing firefighter pay talks, new fire equipment, citywide street sweeping starting in October, and digital permitting and hydrant upgrades aimed at modernizing everyday services.
3. This Sarasota County high school just ranked among the top 15 in the U.S. — and #1 in all of Florida thanks to a 99.93/100 score (secretmiami.com subscription) — A Hialeah standout, Jose Marti Mast 6-12 Academy, just ranked No. 55 in the nation and among Florida’s very best high schools in new U.S. News & World Report rankings. While Sarasota’s Pine View took the statewide top spot, the list shows Hialeah students competing on a truly national level for academic excellence.
4. Invasive Asian Swamp Eels Spread Farther in South Florida (bocaratontribune.com) — Invasive Asian swamp eels have been confirmed in canals across Miami-Dade, including right here in Hialeah, and scientists warn they threaten native fish, frogs, and Everglades restoration. Researchers are asking residents to photograph any eel-like fish they spot in local canals or wetlands and immediately report sightings through the IVEGOT1 hotline, website, or app to help slow the spread.
