• Immokalee children lace up new fitted shoes for summer and the start of school (wgcu.org) — Hundreds of Immokalee children are stepping into summer and the new school year with properly fitted shoes, thanks to the Laces of Love program working with Guadalupe Center. Kids in the center’s Summer Enrichment Program were able to pick their own styles, while local alumna Mileyda Lopez-Figueroa helped with fittings and prepares to head to college. Organizers say comfortable shoes help students focus on learning, not foot pain.
   

• Double homicide suspect to appear in Collier County Court Tuesday (news-press.com) — A man accused of killing two women in Immokalee is being held without bond and is scheduled for his first Collier County court appearance Tuesday afternoon. Investigators say he was arrested in Lehigh Acres after allegedly fleeing the scene, and charges include two counts of second-degree murder, child abuse, and grand theft auto. Court records list an arraignment date in August.
