Guadalupe Center Tutor Corps seniors earn more than $4 million in scholarships (wgcu.org) — Immokalee High School seniors in the Guadalupe Center’s Tutor Corps have earned more than $4 million in college scholarships, with all 34 students accepted to universities. These first-generation college-goers, who tutored local elementary students for years, are heading to schools from UCF to Wesleyan, pursuing careers from aerospace engineering to rural health care inspired by needs they’ve seen in Immokalee.
   

5. Former VP for Oakes Farms affiliate pleads guilty to federal conspiracy (winknews.com) — From Immokalee, a former executive tied to Oakes Farms has agreed to plead guilty in a federal conspiracy case involving alleged overcharging and mislabeling produce in a program meant to feed students and military personnel. Prosecutors say the scheme used inflated invoices and foreign grapes mislabeled as Florida-grown, with contracts totaling hundreds of millions of dollars. The defendant now faces up to five years in prison and has agreed to cooperate with investigators.
