Her family, who say she lived in Lakeland, have launched a GoFundMe to help bring her remains home and cover funeral costs, while investigators examine speed and other factors in the wreck.
2. First Window for Duck Hunting Opens This Weekend (lkldnow.com) — Duck hunting season's first window opens this Saturday, Sept. 19, through Wednesday, Sept. 23, and Lakeland officials are warning lakeside residents and visitors to be alert around permitted hunting areas. Only wood and teal ducks may be taken, and hunters must follow all Florida Fish and Wildlife rules, including licenses, bag limits, and restricted shooting hours. Regular duck season continues later in November, December and January.
3. Florida Mom, Son Arrested After Alleged Incest Exposed (lamag.com) — A Polk County mother and her adult son from a Lakeland home are facing serious incest and related charges after a domestic dispute allegedly exposed a years-long sexual relationship. Investigators say both admitted to repeated encounters at their Lakeland residence, though one incest charge has since been dropped while the case against the mother continues in circuit court.
4. Sonepar Subsidiary Expands in Florida (inddist.com) — World Electric, a Sonepar subsidiary, is siting its new central distribution hub in Lakeland, joining existing centers near Atlanta and Miami and expanding to 23 locations across Florida and Georgia. For Lakeland residents, the 2027 hub promises new jobs, stronger industrial activity, and a higher profile for the city in the regional electrical supply chain.
5. James Wehr's Crash Victim Lexi Kramer to Be Honored at Florida Memorial (tmz.com) — Friends and neighbors in Lakeland will have a chance to honor crash victim Lexi Kramer at a celebration of life planned in the city on October 9. Her family is inviting all who knew her to gather, share memories, and grieve together, while asking media to give mourners privacy after the high-profile California crash that claimed her life.
