Confirmed Coronavirus Case Total In Polk County Reaches 557
According to the Florida Department of Health, as of Thursday morning the state has 38,002 coronavirus cases; nearly 600 are in Polk County.
LAKELAND, FL — As of May 7, Polk County has a total of 557 positive coronavirus cases, according to the Florida Department of Health, and 30 deaths. The state has 38,002 confirmed cases and 1,539 deaths, reports the Florida Department of Health. There have been 6,557 hospitalizations across the state. The median age in Polk County is 56.
In a Tweet sent out Thursday by the Florida Department of Health, it said, "It is not always visible if someone has a compromised immune system. You can protect the most vulnerable from #COVID19 by practicing social distancing. Always maintain at least 6 feet between yourself and others."

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, symptoms of coronavirus include:
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fever
- Chills
- Muscle pain
- Sore throat
- New loss of taste or smell
Children have similar symptoms to adults and generally have mild illness.
This list is not all inclusive. Other less common symptoms have been reported, including gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.

- Trouble breathing
- Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
- New confusion or inability to arouse
- Bluish lips or face
