Man Arrested In Shooting Death At July 4 Winter Haven Block Party

Their investigation led detectives to Bernard Footman and they obtained a warrant for his arrest and took him into custody Aug. 18.

WINTER HAVEN, FL — Winter Haven police have arrested a 47-year-old man in connection with the July 4 shooting at a pop-up block party that killed Demetrick Brown.

Winter Haven Police Chief David Brannan said detectives "worked nonstop" to find the person responsible for shooting into a crowd at a block party around midnight, killing Brown and injuring two others.

Their investigation led detectives to Bernard Footman and they obtained a warrant for his arrest and took him into custody Aug. 18.

"Our investigators worked tirelessly to get justice for Demetrick's family,"said Brannan. "We know this doesn't erase the pain the family has gone through, but we are glad to help bring closure for them."

Footman was booked into the Polk County Jail on charges of second-degree murder with a firearm, two counts of second-degree attempted murder, possession of a firearm by convicted felon, tampering with physical evidence and discharging a firearm in public.
