Man In Bloody Shirt, Carrying Knife Arrested After Walking Into Publix
A birthday celebration Monday night at an apartment complex in Davenport ended with two people being stabbed, according to Polk deputies.

DAVENPORT, FL — A birthday celebration Monday night at an apartment complex in Davenport ended with two people being stabbed, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said Derrick Charles Emery, 32, was arrested Tuesday morning on charges of attempted second-degree murder.
According to the sheriff's office, Emery had been attending a birthday party at an apartment on Charo Parkway when the party host decided he was too drunk and should leave. Two people, one of which has known Emery since high school, volunteered to walk him home.

As they were walking, the two people said Emery pulled out a pocket knife and began stabbing them. One person was stabbed in the neck, chest and forearm and the other in the chest and arm. Both were treated and are expected to recover.
When detectives questioned Emery, they said he admitted to being drunk and became paranoid, thinking they were going to hurt or kill him.

Emery was arrested after walking into a Publix with blood on his shirt, still carrying the knife, and asking employees for help.
