Man Charged With DUI Manslaughter For Deadly Lakeland Crash: FHP

The collision took the life of a Brandon man, Florida Highway Patrol said.

LAKELAND, FL — A 47-year-old Brandon man died Tuesday morning after a driver crashed a sedan into the back of the victim's truck on County Line Road in Polk County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

At about 10:49 a.m., the victim and a driver in an SUV drove northbound adjacent to each other on County Line Road near McElveen Avenue, according to law enforcement officials.

The driver in the sedan, who authorities said was under the influence, rammed into the back of both vehicles, and the impact pushed the victim's truck across the median into southbound travel lanes on County Line Road.

A tractor trailer drove southbound on County Line Road when the truck slid into its path, deputies said.

Investigators said the victim died at the scene of the crash.

The driver in the SUV experienced minor injuries, and the driver of the tractor trailer didn't suffer any injuries, authorities said.

Florida Highway Patrol arrested the driver of the sedan and charged him with DUI manslaughter.

The driver charged with DUI manslaughter had minor injuries, officials said.

Due to Marsy's Law, the Florida Highway Patrol will not release the name of the victims.
