LAKELAND, FL — A man is facing charges after authorities said he fatally shot another man outside a Lakeland pool hall on Thursday.

According to Lakeland police, the shooting occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Wally's Pool Hall, located at 1136 E. Kevin Lamont Reed Jr. was arrested Thursday night in connection with the shooting and was charged with second-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence.

Following an investigation, police said that before the shooting, Reed was inside Wally's with two women. Magee was also inside the business during this same period; however, police said the two never made contact while inside.

According to police, Reed and the two women went outside of the business shortly after midnight, and Magee walked outside around 12:28 a.m.

At some point, police said a disagreement between the two men occurred, and, according to witness statements, one of the women tried to hold Reed back while they argued. Police said Magee started backing away with his hands up, appearing to attempt to de-escalate the argument, but Reed followed and pushed him.

According to police, Reed then turned around as if he was going to leave, but instead turned around, pulled out a gun and fired multiple rounds at Magee. Police said Magee then drew his own weapon and returned fire as he was falling to the ground.

Following the shooting, police said Reed fled the scene in a vehicle.

Officers found a gun near Magee when they arrived, which was secured as evidence. While taking Reed into custody, detectives were able to locate another gun that police said was likely used in the shooting.

The incident remains under investigation.
