As drought conditions persist under SWFWMD's Phase 3 shortage rules, city officials urge homeowners to learn their allowed watering days and use smarter watering techniques to keep gardens healthy while avoiding costly tickets.
   

2. 17-year-old charged with felony after fleeing police in Lakeland (wfla.com) — A late-night police pursuit involving a 17-year-old Lakeland driver ended when a Florida Highway Patrol trooper used a PIT maneuver near Old Combee Road and East Lake Parker Drive. The teen, whose Dodge Avenger carried the wrong plate and was unregistered, now faces a felony fleeing and eluding charge, with additional counts expected from Lakeland police.
   

3. Polk County K9 Unit Halts Window-Jumping Fugitive In Lakeland Foot Chase (tampafp.com) — Polk County deputies tracked down a 26-year-old Lakeland man with an outstanding probation violation warrant after he ran through a Mercury Drive East home, kicked a door, and jumped through a window. A nearby sheriff's K9 team helped corner him, leading to new resisting and criminal mischief charges on top of his existing record in Florida courts.
   

4. Woman shares her experience with dengue fever as Hillsborough leads state in cases (wfla.com) — A Lakeland woman describes how dengue fever left her hospitalized, severely underweight, and in months of intense bone pain, underscoring how serious mosquito-borne illness can be. With Hillsborough County currently leading Florida in locally acquired dengue cases, Tampa General Hospital doctors say mosquito control efforts are improving and expect cases to drop in the coming weeks.
