The discussion comes amid ongoing scrutiny of the housing authority's leadership, record-keeping, and treatment of residents, with commissioners weighing due-process requirements and renewed calls for an independent forensic audit.
   

2. Lakeland Commission OKs Drought Fines, Electric Savings, Uber Airport Fee and $400K Stormwater Plan — Lakeland (dailyridge.com) — Lakeland residents will soon face higher fines for wasting water but should see slightly lower electric bills after the City Commission unanimously approved several changes. Commissioners also formalized Uber operations at Lakeland Linder International Airport and accepted major funding for a citywide stormwater master plan that will guide future drainage and flooding improvements.

City Commission Set to Vote on Property Tax Rate as Amendment 3 Looms (lkldnow.com) — Lakeland homeowners should know commissioners are leaning toward keeping the city's 5.4323 millage rate even as statewide Amendment 3 threatens to cut local property-tax revenue by about $14.5 million a year. Upcoming budget hearings this month and contingency plans for 10% departmental cuts will shape which services and amenities the city can afford to maintain.
   

4. Recognized On The Road: Wanted Mulberry Biker Busted At Lakeland Convenience Store (tampafp.com) — A 29-year-old Mulberry man wanted on a felony probation-violation warrant was arrested without incident at a Lakeland Circle K after a detective recognized him riding a motorcycle. Polk County deputies coordinated a perimeter, took him into custody inside the store, and added a charge for driving with a suspended or revoked license.
   

5. Lakeland Highlands Hospital to Host Kids Electric Car Program (centralfloridahealthnews.com) — Families in Lakeland will soon be able to take their children with mobility challenges to a special event at Orlando Health Watson Clinic Lakeland Highlands Hospital, where volunteers will customize electric toy cars for free. UCF students and local helpers will add adaptive controls, safety supports, and fun decorations so kids can better play and move alongside siblings and friends.
