Scammers Targeting Lakeland Electric Customers

LAKELAND, FL — Lakeland Electric is warning customers to be wary of a scam.

Lakeland Electric said it received a complaint from a customer who received a call from “Sunshine Utilities” telling him they’d be taking over his water service and to call to set up an account with Sunshine Utilities.

He said they appeared on his caller ID as Utilities Inc.

Lakeland Electric is alerting customers that this is a scam and to hang up if they receive a call like this and do not provide any personal information.

For more than a century, Lakeland Electric has been the public power utility for the city of Lakeland.
