1 Tampa Bay Target Slated for Closing

The retail giant is closing down 13 stores across the country on Jan. 30, 2016.

Tampa Bay area shoppers who are used to zipping into the Target store in Odessa will soon have say goodbye to that location.

The retail chain has confirmed that the 16400 State Road 54 store, just off the Suncoast Parkway in Pasco County, is slated to close Jan. 30, 2016. Employees at that store and 12 others across the country were notified on Monday, Kristy Welker, Target spokesperson, told Patch.

Welker said all eligible team members are being offered the option to transfer to other stores in the region. No other Tampa Bay area stores are on the list of closings, Welker added.

“The decision to close a Target store is not made lightly,” she said. “We typically decide to close a store after careful consideration of the long-term financial performance of a particular location. Typically, the decision to close a store is as a result of seeing several years of decreasing profitability.”

Other stores scheduled to close are located in such states as Texas, Michigan, California and Kentucky, among others.
