Burglar's Crash Through Ceiling Caught On Video

The man's hard entry into a Popeyes chicken didn't stop him from cracking open the safe ... eventually.

JACKSONVILLE, FL — A Jacksonville burglary suspect found out the hard way recently that what goes up must inevitably come down.

In surveillance video released by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the man is seen falling into the kitchen of a Popeyes chicken from the ceiling above. Stunned, he looks around for a few moments, gains his bearings and then proceeds to try and break into the under-counter safe.

While the man’s safecracking skills left a lot to be desired, he did finally get what he came for, the sheriff’s office noted on YouTube.

“After several hours of prying and striking the safe, the suspect was able to break it open and steal money,” the agency wrote.

All told, the video spans nearly 19 minutes and provides several clear shots of the determined burglary suspect’s face.

Now, deputies are hoping to identify the man in the video. The crime in question occurred sometime between 3:45 and 7:15 a.m. Jan. 18 at the 649 S. McDuff Ave. Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen. Surveillance video of the crime was released Feb. 17. Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 904-630-0500.

The suspect in this case isn’t the first Florida criminal caught on camera with a snafu in progress. Last year, an armed robber was captured on surveillance attempting to make a getaway after robbing an elderly woman at knifepoint. That getaway was hampered, however, when the elevator doors closed faster than he could move. His smack into the doors was clearly captured on the video.

And, then there was the Nokomis burglar who was found sleeping on a bed next to a bag chockful of stolen jewelry. The man was sleeping so soundly, Sarasota County deputies were able to snap a shot of him snoozing before hauling him in.
