High School Teacher Arrested for Sex with Hernando Co. Student: Sheriff

BREAKING: Pot and alcohol also allegedly were used during the encounters at the woman's home, deputies said.

HERNANDO COUNTY, FL – A 34-year-old high school teacher from Hernando County was arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a male student, 17, that included sharing marijuana and alcohol at the teacher's home, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office said today.

After an interview with detectives, Valerie Michelle Valvo, a teacher at Central High School in Brooksville, was arrested on three counts of suspected unlawful sexual activity with a minor and one count of allegedly contributing to the delinquency of a minor, deputies said.

The Sheriff's Office said it was alerted Wednesday to a possible inappropriate relationship occurring between a Central High teacher and a student at the school. Detectives interviewed the teen at the school, where he reportedly acknowledged having engaged in sexual relations with Valvo at her Spring Hill home "on at least three occasions."

Valvo, meanwhile, also was questioned, and detectives said she admitted to engaging in sexual relations with the student "five to six times."

While both parties said the relationship was consensual, the law states a minor cannot consent to a sexual relationship with an adult, deputies said.

Valvo and the juvenile also allegedly admitted to using marijuana and alcohol while at Valvo's residence, officials said.

Valvo's bond was set at $15,500.

Detectives are in contact with the School Resource Officer at Central High, as well as administrators from the Hernando County School Board regarding the investigation.
