Hungry Harry's Open Despite Run-In with Car

The eatery was able to open in time for Monday's dinner rush.

A Cadillac sitting in its front porch area wasn’t going to stand in the way of Hungry Harry’s Family Bar-B-Que staff members and an awaiting dinner crowd.

After all, with the motto “Open 8 Days a Week,” closing down just wasn’t feasible.

That’s the word from a restaurant employee who said the eatery opened up in time for the dinner crowd Monday night despite a wreck that ended with a car striking the entryway.

“We have a lot of good friends behind us,” explained the server who answered the restaurant’s phone Tuesday morning.

Following the crash, the restaurant removed its covered front porch to enable patrons to access the front door.

“You have may have heard that we had a little accident at the Land O’ Lakes restaurant,” Hungry Harry’s Facebook page said Monday evening. “We are happy to report that no one was hurt and we are open for business.”

The crash in question took place around 2:54 p.m. Monday when two cars were traveling north on Land O’ Lakes Boulevard in the outside lane. When one car slowed for a turn, the second did not, but swerved to avoid a crash. That move was unsuccessful, the Florida Highway Patrol wrote in a report. The driver ultimately struck the car in front and the 3116 Land O’ Lakes Blvd. restaurant.

Hungry Harry’s has been a fixture in Land O’ Lakes since it opened in 1985. Founded by Harry M. Wright, the eatery also has a Seffner location. Both locations are open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
