'Major Delays' Likely on I-75 Northbound Through Pasco County

Two northbound Interstate 75 lanes in Pasco County have been closed for several days following the opening of a depression.

San Antonio, FL – Tampa Bay area motorists hoping to head northbound on Interstate 75 through Pasco County or out of the state are likely to face some serious delays in the Wesley Chapel and San Antonio areas.

The Florida Department of Transportation announced Thursday afternoon that repairs to a depression that opened up in the road in the San Antonio area are still going on. The work affects the right and middle lanes of northbound I-75, about three miles north of State Road 52.

As of Thursday afternoon, FDOT anticipated the two lanes would remain closed until sometime on Friday, July 15.

β€œWith just one of three northbound I-75 lanes open in this area, drivers can major expect delays in southern and central Pasco County leading up to the work zone and may want to consider alternate routes,” FDOT wrote in an email to media.

FDOT said the depression initially opened up under the right lane on Saturday. Inspections resulted in the decision to close the middle lane, as well, out of concerns about the depression and voids under the roadway.
