Name Your Price for a Dog or Cat in Pasco County

Land O’ Lakes, FL — Tampa Bay area residents in search of a new pet may find an upcoming deal at Pasco County Animal Services too good to pass up on.

Facing summertime overcrowding, the shelter is pulling out the stops for a one-day “Summer Spectacular Adoption Event.” During the July 23 event, visitors will be able to name their own price for dogs or cats between noon and 4 p.m. All pets offered are spayed or neutered, microchipped and fully vetted, the county said.

While the big name-your-own-price deal is set for July 23, the Land O’ Lakes shelter is already overflowing to the brim.

“Right now we have an even split of cats and dogs,” said spokeswoman Andrea Ciesluk. That split involves 171 cats and 171 dogs. “We really need help getting these animals out. We truly do not have any more space.”

Folks who just can't wait to adopt are more than welcome to stop by and pick out a pet before the July 23 event. The normal adoption fee for dogs is $70, plus a $10 license fee for Pasco residents. Cats normally cost $40 to adopt. Every Friday, however, is Feline Friday with $5 adoptions available.

Summertime, shelter workers say, is an excellent time to bring home a new pet. With kids home from school and families able to spend more time together, it’s easier to help a newly adopted pet acclimate to a new surroundings.
