New Port Richey Man Critical Following Crash On SR 52

WESLEY CHAPEL, FL -- A 28-year-old New Port Richey man is in critical condition at Lakeland Regional Medical Center following an accident around 10 p.m. Thursday, May 9, on State Road 52 west of Emmaus Cemetery Road in Pasco County.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Richard Benson was driving his 2015 Chevrolet Sonic east on SR 52 and, while rounding a curve, he crossed the center line and collided with a 1999 Ford SUV driven by Bobbie L. Pavy, 37, of San Antonio. The impact caused Benson’s car to spin around and hit a guardrail. Pavy’s car was forced off the road and flipped over.

Pavy was taken to Florida Hospital in Dade City with minor injuries. A passenger in Benson’s car, Patrick T. Harris, 20, of New Port Richey, was taken to Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel with minor injuries as well.
