60 Arrested In Pinellas County Warrants Sweep

Several local law enforcement agencies teamed up for 'Operation Street Sweep,' targeting felony offenders.

LARGO, FL β€” A recent team-up between the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, several police departments and state and federal agencies has resulted in the arrest of 60 people.

According to the sheriff’s office, Operation Street Sweep kicked off March 3 and ran through March 16, targeting 665 people in south Pinellas County with outstanding felony warrants. The sheriff’s office’s partners in the operation included the Largo, Gulfport, Indian Shores, Kenneth City, Pinellas Park, St. Petersburg and Treasure Island police departments. The FBI, FDLE, FDOC and the U.S. Marshals Service also pitched in.

During the operation, β€œlaw enforcement teams fanned out across 19 zones in South Pinellas and arrested a total of 60 suspects on approximately 71 warrant charges to include felony battery, aggravated assault, battery on elderly person, drug trafficking, drug possession, grand theft motor vehicle, welfare fraud, unemployment compensation fraud, food stamp fraud” and other charges, the sheriff’s office wrote in an email.

Two additional people were also arrested on such charges as armed burglary, auto theft, felon in possession of a firearm and drug possession.

The sheriff’s office has not released the names of those arrested, but says people with outstanding warrants can count on the agencies'Β continued pursuit of them in the β€œdays and weeks to come.”
