Apparent Murder-Suicide Under Investigation in Largo

Breaking: Two women were found dead in a Largo apartment Monday evening.

LARGO, FL — The Largo Police Department is investigating the deaths of two women found shot in an apartment Monday evening.

According to the agency, police were called just before 5:40 p.m. Monday to perform a welfare check on a woman who lived in the 3000 block of Adrian Avenue. The caller, a family member, told police the woman was thought to be suicidal, an email from the agency said.

When police responded to the woman’s home, they were approached by a neighbor who told them the sound of “fireworks” had been coming from the apartment. When officers entered the home, they found two women dead with gunshot wounds, the email said.

Detectives responded to the scene and determined the case is a likely murder-suicide. Police say Jessica Strauss, 31, shot her longtime friend, Carol Ann Neely, 55, and then turned the gun on herself. A weapon was found near Strauss’ body, the email noted.

No further information is being released at this time.
