The green-and-gold carpet raised eyebrows last week when it was discovered to have the words “In Dog We Trust” instead of “In God We Trust” imprinted within a giant sheriff’s office star. A deputy noticed the chuckle-inducing typo while walking through the agency’s new $81 million headquarters in Largo.

News of the typo garnered national attention and the sheriff’s office stepped up, admitting it was not going to “sweep anything under the rug.” While the rug won’t be on display at headquarters any longer, the agency has put it up for auction with proceeds benefitting Palm Harbor animal rescue Canine Estates.
