Greater Largo Little League Seniors Head to Southeast Regional Tournament
Monday night's win sent Largo to Melbourne this weekend to represent the state of Florida in the Southeast Regional Tournament.
Monday night was a time of anticipation and high hopes when both Greater Largo Little League and Dade City’s Little League Senior All-star teams took the field at Largo High School.
Largo didn’t hesitate to put runs on the board in the top of the first inning setting the bar with a 2 – 0 score. Dade City attempted to battle back but left runners on the bases with no scoring runs. Andrew Murphy # 2, centerfielder from Largo threw out the Dade City runner Kaleb Johnson # 7 as he was attempting to put the first run on the board for his team.
By the top of the 4thstill no runs scored for either team Travis Carden # 4 for Largo hit a homerun sailing over right field bringing the score to 3 – 0. Again the Dade City players battled to regain standing in the bottom of the 4th but Angel Torres Jr. #27, third baseman for largo, shut them down with a bullet thrown to first baseman Andy Weiss to end the inning.

Not long into the 5th inning Chris D’Angelo , Largo second baseman, hit his first ever homerun, bringing in Angel Torres and increasing the score to 5 – 0. As Dade City’s pitcher Blaine Duncan #14, came off the mound, Dade city held Largo in the top of the 6th hoping to put a run on the board. With first baseman Derek Pious ‘s #3, line drive to left field the excitement began to rise. Largo wasn’t showing any signs of backing down and Largo left fielder, Ryan Cunningham #3, made that apparently clear with an amazing catch of a pop fly that set the Largo bench alive with cheers.
Heading into the 7th the Largo bats fired up and two more runs came in and now the score 7 – 0. Two outs and Largo’s second baseman Matt Schaefer #20 steps up to the plate. He sailed a hit to right field, Dade City’s Turner Imhoff, sprinted and slide towards the right field fence catching the ball to end the top of the 7th.

Largo pitcher Michael Delmonte #11, who had pitched the entire game was coming close to the top of his pitch count. With only a few pitches left at his disposal, he knuckled down along with his fellow teammates to end the game with exactly 95 pitches. The crowd roared as District 12 concluded the game by presenting each of the teams with their medals.
Greater Largo Little League travels today (August 2) to Melbourne to represent the State of Florida in the Southeast Regional Tournament.
