An 18-year-old Largo man suffered minor injuries following a Sunday morning crash on the Veterans Expressway.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Basil Scruby entered the expressway from Waters Avenue headed in the wrong direction. As Scruby was travelingΒ southbound around 7:07 a.m. in the northbound lanes, he realized the error and attempted to cross through the median construction area.
Scruby failed to reduce speed and traveled off the median overpass, a report from the patrol stated. Fortunately, his vehicle came to rest on the new bridge support.

Scruby was taken to Town & Country Hospital with minor injuries.
He was charged with careless driving for the accident, which caused a southbound lane to close for a time.
