Local non-profit organizations provide a variety of resources to the Largo community. Patch wants to share our picks on five non-profits that are truly making a difference.
- City of Largo Library: Largo Library provides a wealth of resources, including the tangibles of computers, internet access, books and reference material. They run educational and entertainment programs for children, teens, adults and seniors. Their weekly and monthly programs offer computer training, literacy tutoring, reading clubs, kids' events and more. - City of Largo's Green Team: This group helps spread environment awareness and assist with neighborhood recycling. Volunteers help with city events, such as Touch-A-Truck, Chilli Cookoff, Largo's downtown market and other special events. They're passionate about saving our environment and renewing resources. - SPCA Tampa Bay: This non-profit helps sick, injured, homeless and unwanted pets. Their volunteers offer plenty of services as canine or feline counselors, dog trainers, foster parents and web photographers. - Religious Community Services, Inc. (RCS): This is a non-profit, social service agency that helps with basic needs of food, shelter, safety, clothing and household goods. The RCS Thrift Store sells gently used clothing and furniture; sales help fund their community programs. The thrift store is located at 2960 E. Bay Dr., Largo, FL. 33771. - Heritage Village: This is a 21-acre, open air village of our area's historical buildings. Its importance lies in preserving and sharing historical documents, photos and items in its village and museum. It hosts a variety of educational programs and entertainment.
