PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — Pinellas deputies are participating in the 2022 Memorial Day S.A.L.E. (Sea Air and Land Enforcement).

The detail will focus on strict enforcement of speeding, aggressive driving, and the operation of vehicles, boats and other water vessels while impaired throughout Pinellas County over the holiday weekend.

The enforcement began at 9 a.m. Friday and will run through 5 p.m. Monday.

The detail will use the marine unit to conduct vessel safety inspections and enforcement of marine laws. The flight unit will assist the traffic and DUI unit in the enforcement of speeding, aggressive driving and driving under the influence.

The detail is part of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Strategic Policing through Education and Enforcement for Drivers (SPEED) highway safety contract and the DUI Enforcement Enhancement Program contract.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office and other Pinellas County law enforcement agencies are also out in force this weekend for a DUI Wolf Pack dedicated to the memory of 17-year-old Sophia Delott.

Delott was killed by a drunk driver on June 28, 2019, around 10:30 a.m. while riding her bike with both front and rear lights on in the bike lane of the Indian Rocks Causeway Bridge.

Delott was the only girl on the Seminole High School football team and had recently joined the Marines.

Joining Pinellas deputies in the DUI Wolf Pack will be the Florida Highway Patrol, Indian Shores Police Department, Kenneth City Police Department, Largo Police Department, Pinellas Park Police Department, St. Petersburg Police Department, Clearwater Police Department and the Tarpon Springs Police Department.

They will maintain a proactive profile over the holiday weekend on the highly traveled roadways of Pinellas County.
