• Federal Regulators Send $94 Million To Florida For Post-Storm Rebuilding And Flood Control (tampafp.com) — Longboat Key will receive $400,000 in federal hazard-mitigation money to design new flood pumps and better street drains for the Sleepy Lagoon neighborhood, part of a $94 million statewide storm-resilience package. The funding, mostly from FEMA, also supports beach repairs, utility restoration, and hardening of public buildings in other Florida communities after recent hurricanes.
   

• Stone crab season drives 40% jump in Suncoast restaurant traffic (mysuncoast.com) — Longboat Key restaurants are seeing about a 40% jump in guests just one week into stone crab season, giving servers and staff a crucial financial boost during what’s usually a slow fall period. Diners are even driving in from Tampa for the local delicacy, and the season, which runs through May 2, will continue shaping business and staffing plans.
   

• Diocese of Venice news briefs — Oct. 23, 2026 (thefloridacatholic.org) — Longboat Key residents can mark their calendars for a Christmas Market at St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish on Nov. 12-13, featuring vendors inside Father Pick Hall on Gulf of Mexico Drive. The wider Diocese of Venice roundup also highlights retreats, youth rallies, bereavement programs, and faith-focused social events across Southwest Florida through early December.
