DADE CITY, FL -- A Pasco County Sheriff's deputy found himself on the wrong end of a taser Tuesday, Oct. 16, when he got into a struggle with a Plant City man.

According to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Darren Goodwald, 27, pulled over a car driven by Bryan Roque, 30, in Dade City.

"He gave me the 'come on, let's go' look," said Goodwald. When Roque took off running, Goodwald caught up with him and reached for his radio to call for backup. That's when he said Roque grabbed his taser, stunning both of them in the process.

Goodwald said Roque then tried to grab his gun.

"His intent was to do whatever he had to do to avoid being arrested, including killing me," Goodwald said during a press conference Wednesday.

Before backup arrived, some bystanders stepped in. One man jumped on Roque's back.

The sheriff's office said Roque was high on methamphetamine, marijuana and opiates at the time he attacked Goodwald.

The sheriff's office released Goodwald's body camera video of the incident. Please be advised, the video contains explicit language.
