The proposal would sharply increase the homestead exemption, shifting billions away from local governments that fund law enforcement, fire rescue, roads, libraries, and parks across communities like Melbourne, Palm Bay, Titusville, and Rockledge.
   

2. Florida Dog Owner Fakes Heart Attack To Avoid Arrest After Pets ‘Ripped Apart' Woman (breezyscroll.com) — A woman was recently arrested in Melbourne after her two dogs allegedly escaped her property and fatally attacked a dog walker in nearby Cocoa, leading to a manslaughter charge. Brevard County authorities say the case, which may result in the dogs’ euthanasia and up to 15 years in prison if she’s convicted, is fueling debate over dangerous dog laws and owner responsibility.
   

3. Congressionally Directed Spending (aza.org) — Major federal earmarks are helping Brevard Zoo in Melbourne build the new Bowen Aquarium, including a Coastal Conservation Hub and Sea Turtle Care and Research Complex that support Indian River Lagoon restoration.
