11-Foot Gator Captured After Dogs Alert Miami Man At Farm: Reports

A veteran trapper told a news outlet the 480-pound alligator, which ended up on a Miami farm, escaped a canal.

MIAMI, FL — After a man's barking dogs alerted him to an 11-foot and 480-pound alligator in his farm's backyard Tuesday, media reports say the alligator was captured.

Tim Nguyen told CBS News Miami that fear struck when he saw what his dogs had been barking at, a large alligator on his farm in the area of Southwest 227th Avenue and 233rd Street.

Miami-Dade Police and a veteran trapper Todd Hardwick were able to remove the alligator from the property, both CBS and WPTV reported.

"This is typical for this time of year," Hardwick told media. "This is a male alligator a little over 11 feet. He got out of a canal last night."

The alligator will either be put into captivity or harvested; but, it cannot be released as could possibly return to the area of capture, CBS News reported.
