KEY WEST, FL — Three fishermen were rescued after their boat sank about 70 miles off Key West, near Dry Tortugas, on Sunday afternoon, U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Miami wrote in a Facebook post.

They made a mayday call as their 45-foot boat took on water and they got into a life raft.

The air station’s call center received an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) signal, which pinpointed their location, the Coast Guard said.

Crews raced to the scene and after locating the life raft, hoisted all three men into the helicopter.

“As we approach National Safe Boating Week, this is a perfect reminder to check your emergency equipment and acquire and register an EPIRB,” the Coast Guard said.
