The suspect then took out a gun and began shooting at Merritt as he ran away, chasing him around a tree, PBCSO records show. The victim said Levine shot about five rounds at him. One bullet hit Merritt’s left ankle, causing him to fall on his face.
One witness told deputies that after Merritt fell, Levine kicked him in the head.
The shooter then took a golf club from his golf cart and began hitting the victim, who was still on the ground, with it.
Investigators found “two golf clubs with blood like substance on the face,” as well as 9mm shell casings at the scene.
Levin was charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a weapon and discharging a firearm in public.
