FL Couple Makes Shocking Find In Avocado From Major Grocery Chain

FLORIDA KEYS — A Florida couple is hoping for free avocados for life after finding a spent bullet casing in an avocado they bought from Publix.

On Sunday, Syd Meyer shared a video of her boyfriend dissecting the avocado to Instagram, which went viral. As of Tuesday morning, the video has more than 51,000 likes. (Watch the video below.)

In the video, which has a Florida Keys location tag, Meyer can be heard saying that she “thought it was the stem at first,” adding that she also “thought it was a nail.”

The couple didn’t say which Publix store the avocado came from.

Her boyfriend, identified by the Miami New Times as Chris Gleadall, then “dissects” the avocado with a kitchen knife.

“Hopefully, it doesn’t explode,” Gleadall said.

By the end of the video, he pulled the shell casing from the avocado.

“There’s a shell casing in a Publix avocado. Looks kind of spent but definitely see the gunpowder in it,” he said.

Meyer said, “I was really looking forward to this avocado.”

In a message to the grocery chain, Gleadall said in the video, “Publix, free avocados for life?”

Meyer also chimed in, “Yeah, please? Publix, in return for not going to the feds.”

In a follow-up video of the couple calling the Publix where they purchased the avocado, she said, “This situation definitely has brought up an interesting question of how our produce is sourced. So, be careful as you consume and make your dinner and pick out your vegetables.”

Meyer added, “This is seriously dangerous and could have ended up a lot worse than it did.”

When they called Publix in the video, the person who spoke to them, presumably a manager at the store, offered to give them a new avocado.
