Miami to Tokyo Flights Could Transform US–Japan Travel as Airport Targets American Airlines and JAL (travelandtourworld.com) — Miami International Airport is actively pursuing nonstop flights to Tokyo, with Mayor Daniella Levine Cava weighing a revenue‑guarantee incentive to lure American Airlines or Japan Airlines. For Miami‑area travelers and businesses, the route could eventually mean easier access to Japan and Northeast Asia, though no airline has committed aircraft, schedules, or launch dates yet.
3. Nearly 20 years after Luis Leon Jr. was gunned down in Miami-Dade, his mother is still fighting for answers (cbsnews.com) — Nearly 20 years after 23-year-old Luis Leon Jr. was killed at a southwest Miami-Dade apartment complex, his mother is still pleading for someone to speak up. Detectives say as many as 50 people were nearby that night and hope a new tip to Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers, which is offering up to $5,000, can finally break the case.
4. Severe turbulence injures at least 8 aboard Avianca flight, forcing emergency landing in Miami (texarkanagazette.com) — An Avianca flight from Medellín to New York was forced to divert to Miami early Friday after severe turbulence injured at least eight people, including one person rushed to a trauma center. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported several others to local hospitals, while remaining passengers continued to New York and federal officials review the incident.
