Purr-fect Match: PURRR Adoption + Sanctuary Celebrates National Adopt a Cat Month this June

June is National Adopt a Cat Month and National Hug Your Cat Month, making it the perfect time to find a forever feline friend. Cute cats, cozy cuddles, and forever love await at PURRR Adoption + Sanctuary (PURRR). This Father’s Day, PURRR is launching South Florida’s Top Cat Dad campaign.
Founded in 2018, PURRR Adoption + Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to transform cats' lives one PURRR at a time, through rescue, adoption, and spay + neuter initiatives that help reduce overpopulation and enrich the human-feline connection. PURRR is committed to giving cats and their companions a better future by offering a safe haven and encouraging responsible pet ownership.
While most adoption services are self-service, PURRR believes that every cat has someone and finding the right feline companion is a special journey. Through its “Find Your One” process, PURRR’s team helps future cat moms and dads find their soul cat and guides them every step of the way.
With over 150 adoptable cats, the PURRR team knows every cat – their personality, history, quirks and what kind of home they need to become themselves fully. Whether future cat parents are seeking a playful and energetic kitten, a calm and cuddly adult cat, or a wise and gentle senior, PURRR’s diverse selection of feline friends ensures there’s a perfect match for every home. Soul cat profiles built around personality are available on each feline friend in PURRR’s care. During the “Find Your One” process, PURRR’s expert team asks the right questions and pays attention to make a match with intention. This is more than adoption, it’s placement.
The “Find Your One” experience starts with filling out an application to help PURRR’s team understand the adoptee’s preferences, lifestyle, and what they're looking for in a cat companion. Within 48 hours, a PURRR team member will schedule a meet and greet for the chance to see firsthand the personalities and quirks of feline residents. After connecting with a potential furry family member, PURRR schedules a 15-minute in-home, educational consultation to ensure a smooth integration into the home. PURRR prioritizes the new feline family member's well-being and conducts a comprehensive final medical examination and bloodwork before taking the lifelong feline companion home. The PURRR team will check in after a week to ensure a smooth transition and address any questions. Beyond adoption day, PURRR provides support, resources, and guidance throughout the journey as a pet owner.
"June is the perfect reminder that every cat matters, and every cat deserves someone who shows up for them,” said Founder Tanya Lynn Heller. “At PURRR, every adoption is intentional. Through our ‘Find Your One’ process, we take the time to truly understand each cat and each family, because everyone has a soul cat, and it's our job to help them find each other.”
This Father’s Day, PURRR is searching for South Florida’s Top Cat Dad. Cat dads, foster dads, rescue dads and dedicated volunteers are all welcome to enter for the chance to win. To enter, participants can either direct message @purrr.family on Instagram or email info@PURRR.org their favorite photos. Participants will get a bonus entry if they upload a photo and tag @purrr.family in a post. Bonus points for funny photos, rescue stories and cats with very strong opinions. The deadline for photo submissions is Wednesday, June 10, and the community will vote for the winner leading up to Father’s Day weekend. Each vote is a $1 donation that helps a cat in need. The top five finalists will be featured across PURRR’s social media pages. The winner will be announced on Friday, June 19.
“This Father's Day, we're celebrating cat dads. Whether they rescued a stray, fostered a litter, or simply answered a tiny meow at the door, they showed up, and that means everything,” Heller continued.
One unspayed cat and her offspring are capable of producing as many as 4,950 kittens over seven years. Since its inception, PURRR has performed over 12,800 spay + neuter surgeries and 450 through partnerships with shelters.
Feline overpopulation in South Florida stems from a persistent lack of accessible, affordable, and high-volume spay + neuter services, compounded by the continued, unmanageable growth of the community cat population, where demand far exceeds availability, particularly for free-roaming cats. Since launching its clinic in 2021, PURRR has become one of the few organizations in Broward County solely dedicated to addressing this crisis, building its Spay + Neuter and Vaccine Clinic on the principles of accessibility, collaboration, and impact.
