MIAMI, FL&mdash; Miami-based <a href="https://picolinisanimalrescue.org/" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">Picolinis Animal Rescue</a> is excited to announce it has made it to the Top 5 Finalists for the 2026 Defender Service Awards powered by Chase Bank for the Animal, Wildlife &amp; Marine Mammal Welfare Category and are encouraging animal lovers to vote for the organization daily and in turn, support its mission to rescue and save helpless, injured, abandoned, senior and special needs dogs and cats who are facing euthanasia at local shelters or found homeless on the streets in the South Florida area.&nbsp;

Presented by Chase Bank, each category finalist will be given a $5,000 cash prize to aid in their services, while the winners in each category will receive $30,000 USD. &ldquo;We&rsquo;re up against four other pretty large organizations, but we&rsquo;re hoping we can encourage local Miami residents to vote daily and help us win and continue our mission! This funding would directly help us save more animals in need,&rdquo; said Sofia Valverde, founder and director of Picolinis Animal Rescue, Inc.&nbsp;

Founded in 2020 by Valverde after spending decades rescuing animals on her own, she used her love for her own rescue animals to start Picolinis Animal Rescue. Now, more than six years later, Valverde and her network of fosters, volunteers and friends remain committed to saving injured and special needs animals minutes from euthanasia at local shelters or found the streets of Miami. &ldquo;We rescue some of the region&rsquo;s most vulnerable animals here in South Florida. Unfortunately if a dog comes into a local shelter injured and in need of medical care, they are euthanized because the county doesn&rsquo;t have the resources or medical care available in the shelter. This is where we come in. We pull injured dogs or cats and get them the medical care they need. From dogs hit by cars with broken femurs to special needs dogs and hospice cancer dogs, we have rescued over 300 animals so far and provided them the care and love they need to enjoy their last days on earth. The funds from this contest will go directly to helping us pay for medical vet visits, dog food and other necessary supplies needed to rehabilitate and foster our rescue dogs,&rdquo; Valverde stated.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Supporters and advocates of Picolinis Animal Rescue are encouraged to vote once daily&mdash; all that is needed is a valid email address. &ldquo;Voting only takes a few seconds of time on your phone, but can help us change and improve the lives of many hurt and suffering dogs who are in need of care, love and support,&rdquo; Valverde continued.&nbsp;

According to the latest report from the Best Friends Animal Society, over 378,000 dogs and cats are euthanized in U.S. shelters every year with Florida ranking among the top five states with the highest number of dogs and cats euthanized in shelters. This represents 54% of all euthanized animals. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s our mission to rescue animals from being killed in shelters who otherwise can live normal lives if provided the proper medical treatment and love from a human. We want to get this shelter euthanasia number down and ensure that animals do not leave this earth without experiencing love, safety and compassion,&rdquo; Valverde said.&nbsp;

The leadership changes reflect the company's continued evolution as Basis Industrial has expanded its national portfolio to more than 10 million square feet of multi-tenant industrial and self-storage assets, with an additional 2 million to 3 million square feet expected by the end of 2026.
As CEO and managing partner, Scavo will continue leading the company's overall vision, investment strategy and long-term growth initiatives while overseeing the executive leadership team. The addition of the COO role further strengthens the company's operational leadership, allowing Scavo to devote greater focus to Basis Industrial's continued growth and investment strategy.
The leadership changes also formalize Basis Industrial's executive governance structure. Daniel Weinstein will serve as founder, chairman of the advisory board and investment committee member. Jay Massirman and Stephen Garchik will serve as co-chairmen of the advisory board and investment committee members, and Aubrey Strul serves as a member of the advisory board. Together with Scavo and Patel, the leadership team is positioned to support Basis Industrial's continued growth and long-term strategic vision.
Patel will oversee Basis Industrial's asset management, property management and legal departments as COO. In this role, she will lead the company's day-to-day operational execution across its expanding national portfolio while helping position the organization for its next phase of growth.
"As we have grown and now surpassed a combined 10 million square feet of multi-tenant industrial and self-storage assets, our operational needs required organizational changes," said Scavo. "Patel, a spectacular executive, is joining the Basis family as our chief operating officer. As I transition into the role of chief executive officer and managing partner, this second leadership position within our organizational structure will help Basis through its next stage of growth and allow me to focus more on acquisitions, new verticals and strategic growth."
Prior to joining Basis Industrial, Patel served as COO of Levin Management Corporation, where she oversaw the day-to-day operations of one of the Northeast's premier commercial real estate owner-operators. Previously, she served as head of asset management and dispositions at Essential Properties Realty Trust (NYSE: EPRT), where she oversaw a $6 billion retail portfolio comprising more than 20 million square feet nationwide. Patel also spent more than 10 years at PGIM Real Estate, where she held a variety of roles, including acquisitions and asset management. With nearly 20 years of commercial real estate leadership experience, Patel brings extensive expertise in acquisitions, asset management, operations and strategic execution, positioning her to help lead Basis Industrial through its next phase of growth.

More than a sporting event, Urban Golf Weekend has become a national platform where golf, business, leadership, entrepreneurship, and community engagement intersect. Attendees can choose from the Non-Golfer Weekend Pass, the Golfer Weekend Pass, or the VIP Upgrade Pass, each offering experiences designed for golfers and non-golfers alike.
Driving Opportunity Beyond the Fairway
At the heart of the event is the Urban Golf Foundation, Inc., the nonprofit philanthropic arm of Urban Golf Weekend. The 501(c)(3) organization uses golf to expand access to mentorship, education, scholarships, workforce development, and community engagement.
Urban Golf Weekend is the Foundation's signature fundraiser, supporting HBCU golf scholarships, youth golf initiatives, mentorship programs, and partnerships that introduce more young people and families to the game. Over the past four years, Urban Golf Weekend and the Urban Golf Foundation have invested more than $50,000 in scholarships and youth programs.
From Charity Tournament to National Platform
Urban Golf Weekend was founded by Clifton Addison, who,, after being introduced to the sport through the nonprofit Fore Life. envisioned golf as a gateway to opportunity. Seeking to expand access to golf while fostering business relationships and leadership development, Addison partnered with Woody Remy, Founder and President of Brainstorm Miami, to build what has become one of the country's premier multicultural golf and lifestyle experiences.
Today, Urban Golf Weekend continues to celebrate sports, business, culture, and community while supporting the Urban Golf Foundation's year-round mission.
