FL Couple Kidnapped From Bus In Haiti One Month Ago Released
A Broward County couple kidnapped from a bus while visiting Haiti in March has been freed, reports said.
HAITI — A Broward County couple kidnapped from a bus while visiting Haiti last month has been released, their family said, according to multiple reports.
Jean-Dickens Toussaint and wife Abigail Michael Toussaint, both 33, traveled to Haiti to visit ailing relatives and attend Rara, an Easter music festival, when they were taken off a bus in Port-au-Prince on March 18. They were on their way to Leogane, about 27 miles away, according to the Miami Herald.
A third person traveling with them was also taken from the bus by gang members.

The gang stopped the bus and targeted the three victims after noticing their luggage and realizing they were traveling from abroad, according to WFLA.
The Toussaints’ family paid a $6,000 ransom for the couple, giving the money to someone they trusted to pay the gang, but the money disappeared, according to NBC Miami. They believe it was a scam.

The kidnappers later demanded $200,000 each for their release, reports said.
“Once we sent that money, they tried to up the price to $200,000 per person and we don’t have that type of money,” their niece told WPLG.
Jen-Dickens and Abigail were released Thursday around 11 a.m. Their family members didn’t share whether they paid additional funds to the kidnappers.
They will likely return to their Tamarac home by Saturday, reports said.
