South Florida Couple Kidnapped In Haiti, Family Says

SOUTH FLORIDA — The family of a South Florida couple are asking for the public's help in finding the pair, who they say was kidnapped while in Haiti on March 18, according to a Change.org petition.

The family of Abigail Toussaint, 33, and her husband Jean-Dickens, 33, flew to Haiti to visit ill family members in Leogan, but were kidnapped in Port-au-Prince before they arrived at their destination, according to multiple reports.

The Toussaints are from Tamarac, according to NBC Miami.

The kidnappers ordered the couple off of a bus before taking them hostage and demanding $6,000 for their release, but after their family paid, the kidnappers asked for more money, WPLG reported.

“Once we sent that money, they tried to up the price to $200,000 per person and we don’t have that type of money,” the victims’ niece told the outlet.

The couple has a child who turns two years old next week, according to the family's Change.org petition which asks for help spreading the word about the couples' disappearance.

A US State Department spokesperson told CNN they are “aware of reports of two U.S. citizens missing in Haiti," adding that “when a U.S. citizen is missing, we work closely with local authorities as they carry out their search efforts, and we share information with families however we can."
