FL Officer Charged With Armed Kidnapping, Sexual Battery: Police

An argument between a South Florida police officer and his ex-girlfriend escalated to violence Wednesday, Miami-Dade police said.

HOMESTEAD, FL — An officer faces armed kidnapping and armed sexual battery charges after an argument with an ex-girlfriend escalated to violence Wednesday afternoon, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Miguel Lomeli, 32, of Cutler Bay was also charged with burglary with assault and/or battery while armed, according to his arrest affidavit.

He was arrested Wednesday night at the Miami-Dade police headquarters in Doral.

During an argument with the victim outside her home in Homestead around 1:30 p.m., Lomeli grabbed her and brought her inside the home, where he sexually assaulted her, police said.

“There is no place for betrayal of public trust of any kind in the Miami-Dade Police
Department. The allegations of misconduct by one of my officers is extremely troubling
and immediate action has been taken to hold the officer accountable,” Stephanie V. Daniels, MDPD director, said. “The integrity of our police department is of the utmost importance, and we must continue to act with the highest of standards in order to safeguard the trust of all Miami-
Dade County residents. I will not allow this badge to be tarnished by anyone.”
