Florida Dog Who Ran Away To Arkansas Reunited With Owner

Storm the husky traveled more than 1,200 in less than two weeks before she was found by shelter staff in Hot Springs and returned to Miami.

MIAMI, FL — A Florida dog who escaped her yard and made it more than 1,200 miles before ending up in Arkansas recently reunited with her owner thanks to a microchip and some generous shelter employees.

Storm the husky was found in Hot Springs, Arkansas, last month after she escaped her Miami backyard, according to the City of Hot Springs Animal Services and a report.

Shelter staff found her on the side of a road, the organization said in a Facebook post. They didn't know her name or her story, but they could tell she was loved, staff wrote.

"We just knew we had a 'stray' husky who appeared to have been loved on as she was well-behaved, had recently had a haircut and liked to give hugs," the organization wrote on Facebook.

According to the post, shelter staff learned Storm was microchipped but had no information about her in their system. They submitted her information to a national database and waited, hoping for a call or email, staff wrote.

A few days later, the call came, the shelter wrote.

"We received a call from a nice gentleman saying he had received an email from the microchip company letting him know his three year old Husky, Storm, was with us," the shelter wrote. "He had been searching for Storm everywhere, but had received no leads until he received an email from the microchip company about us."

The nice gentleman was Louis Gonzalez, who told KARK he spent days looking for his pup. It turns out she made it nearly 1,230 in less than two weeks.

According to the shelter, an employee planning a trip to Florida volunteered to take Storm home. The duo met Gonzalez at Treaty Park in St. Augustine. The reunion was even captured on video.

Gonzalez said he nearly cried when Storm returned home. Gonzalez and shelter staff said the reunion would not have been possible without the microchip.

"I was just full of joy — I almost cried, it was really sad but I was sad and happy at the same time," dog owner Louis Gonzalez told KARK.

He continued, "It was like you haven't seen a family member in years."
