Key Biscayne to Celebrate 35th Anniversary of Incorporation With Community Festival
Free event brings the public together to celebrate a historic milestone
The Village of Key Biscayne will celebrate its 35th anniversary as an incorporated municipality with a community festival from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Village Green Park Promenade.
The Village of Key Biscayne, Key Biscayne Community Foundation and Key Biscayne Chamber of Commerce are co-hosting the celebration, which will bring residents and businesses together to mark a milestone in the island’s history.
The festival will feature live music, community performances, children’s activities, field games, and a Vendor Village showcasing local businesses, nonprofits, and creators.

Key Biscayne residents voted to officially become a municipality on June 18, 1991, after residents sought greater local control over development, tax revenue, and improved public safety. A special election was held on September 3rd, and the first Council meeting was September 23, 1991. This incorporation created the first new municipality in Miami-Dade County in more than 50 years.
Today, the Village is home to approximately 14,800 residents and has its own police and fire-rescue departments, elected Village Council and locally administered municipal services.

“Thirty-five years ago, Key Biscayners believed that making our own policy decisions and deciding how our tax dollars were spent would lead to better services, a stronger community, and lower taxes,” said Melissa White, Executive Director of the Key Biscayne Community Foundation. “That belief has been borne out. KBCF is honored to work alongside the Village to serve the Island’s residents and families. We look forward to celebrating the Village’s past and working together to shape its future.”
The 35th Anniversary Community Festival is free and open to the community.
