Here are the top stories today in Miami:
1. The deadline to register to vote is today, Oct. 11, for the upcoming general election happening Nov. 8. Registration will require a state driver's license or state identification card and the last four digits of the applicant's Social Security number. Registration or updates can also be made online. 2. Brightline will begin testing trains travelling at 110 mph in South Florida on Monday, Oct. 17, the high-speed rail company announced. New safety measures will be added to the areas running the test. The test then plans to expand to Central Florida's Brevard County in January 2023. (The Next Miami)
3. Miami-Dade County has joined San Francisco as having the lowest unemployment rate in the nation at 2.3 percent in the sectors of financial activities, professional and business services, and education in health services. (Miami Today)
4. A man flying from Miami to Dulles International Airport last Tuesday was under the influence of magic mushrooms, according to officials. The man allegedly attacked a flight crew member, broke off a piece of a locked lavatory door, opened a door with a passenger inside, and yelled across the plane before he was arrested. 5. FIU Bistro, an award-winning student-run restaurant at the Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management at the university, has reopened with a new menu including polenta, sweet potato tacos, and rum raisin ice cream. Another new edition is coffee beverages from the FIU Coffee Guild, a club of coffee enthusiasts. Diners can enjoy a three-course meal for just $10. (Miami's Community News)
