Miami Beach Suspect Leaves 8 Selfies Behind

MIAMI BEACH, FL — Miami Beach police say they have identified a man who is suspected of accosting a young girl on Sunday courtesy of an envelope full of selfies he left behind. The suspect allegedly dropped the photographs inside a plastic grocery store bag as he was running away. The victim later identified the suspect as the man in the pictures.

"The subject has been identified and we are hopeful an arrest is imminent," Ernesto Rodriguez of the Miami Beach Police Department told Patch. (Sign up for our free Daily Newsletters and Breaking News Alerts for the Miami Patch.)

Police did not identify the girl or release her age but said that the attack occurred at 6:25 p.m. in the 6700 block of Harding Avenue. The girl was walking to a bus stop after leaving a friend's house when she was accosted.

"While walking, an unknown white male adult who was walking in the opposite direction, stopped her by grabbing the victim's wrist and displayed a folding-type knife with a straight edge," the police report said. "According to the victim, the subject stated, 'I think you're very pretty; why don't you come with me to my home' while simultaneously groping himself on the outer area of his pants,genital area."

The young girl refused and threatened to call police. That's when the suspect took off on foot. The victim saw him drop the bag and showed police where it landed.

"The item recovered was a plastic Publix shopping bag with a photo envelope within it," according to the police report. "Inside the envelope was eight photos of a white male, two separate poses."

The victim was not injured in the incident. Her father picked her up at the police station.
